When a USB 3.0 Hub is not Just a Hub

USB 3.0 hubs are not just hubs; they are pieces of equipment that can offer options for application and layout design. Why, you might ask? Gearmo products need to keep up with industry as much as any other brand.

It stands to reason that keeping up could mean adding a modified product design to open the door for existing applications. Our USB 3.0 hub designs are pretty straight forward; they accommodate the need for additional USB ports to operate USB printers, scanners, external hard drives or other USB devices.

Prosumer Series USB 3.0 Hub

Gearmo has created a Prosumer (a play on the word consumer) series of hubs that change the USB 3.0 port connection direction. In fact, the Prosumer series Gearmo hubs is quite a different design that its consumer series, the most obvious change is the port direction. Instead of connecting your USB 3.0 cable to the USB 3.0 port on the long edge of the hub, the Prosumer series has top side connecting to change the direction of the cable connection. Below are Gearmo products GM-HU37 and GM-HU37DW

Let’s take a look between the Consumer series and the Prosumer series of USB 3.0 hubs. What’s the first thing you notice besides the words?

  1. The Consumer series has front facing ports and the Prosumer series has upward facing ports. This changes the entire direction of the USB port connections in the horizontal position.
  2. The 3 pin terminal plug connector has also moved to the top surface position. This allows the power connection to exist on the same platform as the USB ports.
  3. Lastly, the upstream USB Type-B data connection has moved to the top surface with the others.

Convenient Port Connections

All these connection point changes equal a more convenient connection for everything whether you are mounting the USB 3.0 hub in flat surface mount with its included brackets, or, mounting on a Din Rail support in the vertical position.

Before I forget, the mounting brackets have changed a bit too. The mounting brackets and Din Rail clip are wider for more support either way it is secured.

If the application fits, we invite you to become a Prosumer advocate for our Prosumer series of hubs. Our Prosumer series includes a USB 3.0 4 port hub, USB 3.0 7 port hub, and USB 3.0 10 port hub. All can be found in our USB 3.0 Hubs category on Gearmo.
